Sorry, but I read your subheading as "chickens" instead of "children." 🤔 Wondered what the heck you were talking about. It took a little bell and a typewriter carriage return to reset. Since children are different than chickens (mostly) it made much more sense the second time around. 🤣🤣🤣

Yes, there is a definite difference between the two! Hope you liked the piece!

For myself I call it the fun of dyslexia, long ago a tutor encouraged me to read anything and everything, after each sentence ask if it made sense, if not then pick my way back through the sentence to find my mistakes. Why? It helps me increase my vocabulary so in relation to subjects so I can then make better guesses at the words.

The other advice was keep school reading to grade level, getting too advanced freaks out the teachers which was why I was referred to the tutor in the first place.

As an undiagnosed ASD and ADHD kid in a less than ideal environment reading on rainy days and wandering far and wide on better days was my life. And I used to wake at 3am to go lie down on the wide attic deck railing and silently communicate with other "lost" kids.

Dearest Jenn, the metaphor of the lighthouse is a powerful one that resonates deeply with me. This is a beautiful piece of writing. And lovely to be reminded of the sound of silence song. The thing with the lighthouse is that when the storm comes and the waves crash and the lightening flashes the lighthouse does not say, "Go away storm." It says, "Bring it on. This is whatbI am here for." 🥰

Very true! And it lights up for whomever is caught in the same storm with it! Thanks so much for this beautiful comment!
